I found myself staring at a wall of toilet roll, panicking slightly and wondering whether to grab three packs. No, this wasn’t 2020; this was this Saturday in my local supermarket.

Two days before embarking on my supermarket-free September experiment, I found myself in the supermarket doing my last shop. I needed toilet roll, but instead of reaching for my usual one, I felt a sense of panic roll over me.

What would I do when I ran out during this month? What if I couldn’t find anywhere to buy it? Should I just make sure I definitely have a full month’s worth? Is that…cheating? And was I really considering cheating before I even began?
